Get Certified Copies

Follow the steps below and then click Next at the bottom of the page
We recommend that you have the county clerk make certified copies of your signed guardian advocate Order and Letters documents once your hearing is finished and the judge has signed the paperwork.  Having copies of these documents will prove that you have been delegated as a decision maker for the adult with developmental disabilities.

There are two ways that this can happen.  Our recommendation is that you prepare for either option.  Your county clerk will let you know which one they are able to do (please ask them once your hearing is complete).

  • Some counties will be able to make copies of your signed guardian advocate Order and Letters documents immediately after the hearing has been completed.  In this scenario you will be able to get your copies in person and they will not need to be mailed to you later.

  • Other counties will not be able to make the copies while you are there after your hearing.  In this case you can leave a self-addressed stamped envelope with the county clerk and have them mail copies to you.  This option usually takes a few weeks to complete.

How much do copies cost?

  • Most counties charge $1 per page to make copies of your documents
  • Most counties charge an additional $2 to certify your document copies

Prepare for the possibility of having the documents mailed to you

We can not guarantee that the county clerk will be able to make copies of your documents while you are there  after your hearing.  Because of this we recommend that you prepare a stamped envelope that is addressed to yourself in case the clerk needs to mail your documents to you.
