Prepare for Hearing

Follow the steps below and then click Next at the bottom of the page
It is important to prepare for your hearing.  Plan to wear nice clothes so that you fit in with the other people at the courthouse.

Plan to bring:
  • A copy of your petition (all documents that were filed with the Clerk)
  • A picture ID, such as a Florida Driver's License

Prepare your responses to the questions that the judge will ask you (these questions will all be about the adult child with developmental disabilities):
  • What is their diagnosis? Is the diagnosis likely to continue indefinitely?
  • Do they need help with some but not all decisions?
  • Can they do some Activities of Daily Living (feeding, dressing, toileting, etc.) without assistance?
  • If they needed medications, would they require adult assistance?
  • What is their level of reading skill?
  • What is their level of verbal skill?
  • What is their level of math skill?
  • Do they require assistance with government benefits?
  • Can they comprehend their educational needs?
  • Can they comprehend their medical needs?
To check on the status of your hearing
